Chemical Process Engineering Manager

As Processing Manager you will be working on the very latest skincare innovations, working closely with our dynamic R&D team who consistently push the boundaries of skincare technology.
This team is responsible for the scale-up of formulations developed in the R&D lab and the manufacturing of our range of skincare products. You will work as part of the R&D Formulation team, working closely with the Blending team to create robust processing solutions, applying chemical and physical reasoning to understand and resolve scale-up and manufacturing challenges with various products.
This is a new role and we currently have 1 Processing Technologist, so this role will have the opportunity to define the function and expand the team as needed based on business case.
In more detail your role will include:
- Owns the interface between R&D (Formulation, Product & Project) and Blending/Manufacturing to ensure successful upscale of R&D technology into manufacturing.
- Key connection between R&D and Manufacturing during all EPD & NPD processes to ensure understanding of formulation and interaction with machinery available for scale-up.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively to technical and non-technical personnel (Brand, Finance, Manufacturing, Consultants, Leadership).
- Must continue to develop and improve process capabilities as a fundamental skill. Deploying these to the team needs to be part of consistent delivery.
- Review current Blending processes, identifying and implementing improvements or new technologies in manufacturing processes to increase efficiency, reduce waste and improve productivity.
- Proactively change impact assessment and define training plans to support Blending activities, to improve technical understanding in front line staff.
- Ownership of supporting documentation for Blending (specifications, manufacturing instructions, SOPs, etc).
- Working cross-functionally with wider teams including R&D, Production, quality and Engineering.
- Manage root cause analyses should issues arise including ingredient variances and quality.
Requirements:
- Bachelor in Science/Engineering in relevant discipline - Chemical Engineering is a preference.
- Experience in cosmetic products scale-up and/or manufacturing and best practices.
- A thorough understanding of mixing technologies.
- At least 5 years relevant experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Experience with ISO 22716 is desirable.
- Experience working in GMP/FDA/TGA environments is desirable.
- Understanding of cosmetic formulation and emulsion technologies is desirable.
