The Engineering Project Manager is accountable for delivering assigned capital projects throughout all stages of the project lifecycle, from initial evaluation to installation, commissioning, and handover.
This role ensures that solutions are technically sound, compliant with applicable standards, and aligned with organisational goals.
Working collaboratively with internal teams, external suppliers, and contractors, the Engineering Project Manager takes a proactive, hands-on approach to coordinating project tasks, managing detailed documentation, and upholding safety, quality, and regulatory standards. The role requires adaptability to balance strategic planning responsibilities with on-site execution, responding effectively to the needs of each project phase.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the successful execution of capital and transformation projects by ensuring alignment with defined objectives, timelines, and deliverables.
- Collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders, including R&D, Operations, and Quality, to ensure seamless project delivery.
- Represent the engineering function in cross-functional project meetings.
Support the preparation of scopes of work, equipment specifications, and layout drawings for assigned initiatives. - Participate in vendor selection processes and assist in managing supplier performance to meet project requirements.
- Assist in managing project budgets and schedules through accurate monitoring, tracking, and reporting.
- Ensure all work is conducted in compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) regulations, including adherence to CDM requirements where applicable.
- Provide technical expertise during design reviews and installation planning stages.
- Identify and communicate opportunities for process or design improvements to enhance project outcomes.
- Coordinate resources and manage day-to-day activities related to assigned projects to ensure effective execution and progress.
- Coordinate on-site contractors and suppliers to ensure timely, compliant, and safe execution of project tasks.
- Support and enable equipment qualification and validation activities in collaboration with cross-functional teams, including the development, review, and execution of validation protocols (DQ, IQ, OQ, PQ), ensuring alignment with internal process requirements and compliance with regulatory and quality standards.
- Support change control processes for projects by identifying and escalating project scope or design changes appropriately.
- Support commissioning activities and ensure the prompt resolution and close-out of any identified snags or deficiencies to enable smooth project handover.
- Maintain organised and up-to-date project documentation, including technical drawings, specifications, and installation records.
- Foster a proactive, safety-focused culture within project teams and across all on-site activities.
Requirements:
- Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
- HNC/HND or demonstrable equivalent experience in Mechanical, Electrical, or related engineering disciplines.
- Experience delivering multidisciplinary engineering projects in regulated or manufacturing environments.
- Skilled in the development and review of technical documentation, including factory layouts, technical drawings and specifications.(proficiency in the use of AutoCAD is highly desirable).
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, equipment, and engineering standards.
- Ability to manage risks, resolve issues, and support root cause analysis.
- Experience tracking budgets, schedules, and resources to ensure timely, cost-effective project delivery.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement practices.
- Strong focus on health, safety, and environmental compliance.
- Effective stakeholder engagement, including internal workstreams, equipment suppliers and contractor coordination.
- Competent in maintaining clear documentation and reporting.
- Flexible and responsive to changing project needs.
- IT literate with experience using engineering and project management systems. (Agility,ASANA or equivalent)
