Global Photographer - Studio Lead
Medik8 is a leading premium British skincare brand dedicated to providing high-quality, results-driven products backed by scientific research and innovation.
With a growing global presence, we are seeking a highly experienced and visionary Global Studio Lead & Photographer to join our in-house creative team. This is a key senior role with end-to-end responsibility for the creative vision and output of all photography.
You will not only be a hands-on photographer but also a leader, a strategist, and a brand guardian. You'll manage our in-house studio, oversee a team, and direct our visual identity to a global audience.
Reporting to the Head of Creative, you will be the driving force behind our brand's photographic identity. You will take full ownership of the creative vision for all photography, defining the future direction and setting the guidelines that protect and elevate the Medik8 brand aesthetic. You'll lead and mentor a team, manage all internal and external studio resources, and oversee the photography budget.
Your work will shape our global evergreen content, as well as direct our externally built campaigns ensuring every image - from e-commerce visuals to high-concept shoots - is a world-class asset that engages our discerning audience.
In more detail, your role will include:
Strategy & Creative Leadership
- Own the photographic vision for the Medik8 brand, developing and maintaining a distinct luxury aesthetic and visual language across all global channels.
- Create and champion photography guidelines to ensure consistency and quality, acting as the brand guardian for all photographic assets.
- Lead and mentor the in-house studio team, fostering a culture of creative excellence and professional growth.
- Drive the future vision for our brand imagery by staying ahead of trends and innovating new ways to tell our story through captivating visuals.
Studio & Project Management
- Oversee all aspects of our in-house studio, including equipment maintenance, inventory management, and ensuring the studio is a tidy and efficient space.
- Ensure projects remain within budget, ensuring all resources are used effectively to deliver a high volume of quality assets on time - making ongoing proposals in order to maximise budget year to year.
- Strategically manage external resources, including briefing and guiding freelance photographers, studios, and production teams on global campaign or evergreen photo shoots, ensuring brand alignment.
- Coordinate with the Global Videographer to ensure seamless consistency between still and moving imagery.
- Take full responsibility for stakeholder management and meeting deadlines, ensuring all projects are delivered efficiently and effectively.
Hands-on Photography & Production
- Lead the planning, conception, and execution of all photography, including still-life product, model, and lifestyle shoots, both in-house and on location.
- Utilise your expert skills in styling, lighting, and composition to produce premium, sophisticated imagery that elevates our products and brand.
- Manage the full post-production process, from hands-on retouching to managing external freelance retouchers to deliver final assets.
- Collaborate closely with the Head of Creative and other departments to deliver company-wide needs efficiently and effectively.
Requirements:
- Proven senior-level experience in-house or with an agency, with a portfolio that demonstrates your expertise in the luxury market, particularly in beauty or skincare.
- Possess proven experience in leading and mentoring a creative team. Have a strategic mindset with the ability to define a creative vision and set guidelines for a global brand.
- Are a highly organised self-starter with a collaborative and flexible approach, thriving in a fast-paced environment.
- Are an experienced user of CaptureOne, Photoshop, and Helicon Focus, with a deep understanding of lighting and retouching techniques.
