Health & Safety Officer
6-month Fixed Term Contract
Salary £40,000 - £45,000
At Medik8 we are more than ever differentiating ourselves from our competitors, pioneering the market, and being a key leader in the skincare industry. As a brand we are led by science; innovation and technological advancements have always been at our core. This is what makes us incomparable against the competition, by producing some of the most advanced skincare on the market.
Role Purpose
We are looking for an immediately avaliable Health and Safety Officer to provide hands-on support to the manufacturing site by maintaining health, safety, and environmental compliance standards. You will execute day-to-day safety tasks, ensure risk assessments remain current, and maintain audit readiness. This is a shop-floor-focused role designed to ensure our operations remain safe, legal, and efficient during this period.
Key Responsibilities
Systems & Standards Maintenance
Maintain the existing H&S management framework by ensuring all documentation is up to date, filed correctly, and accessible to the operational teams.
Conduct scheduled reviews of Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work (SSOW) to ensure they match the physical reality of the shop floor.
Support the Quality team by executing specific H&S tasks required for regulatory standards (FDA, ISO 14001, ISO 22716), ensuring we remain audit-ready for any external visits.
Carry out internal audits and inspections as per the schedule, flagging non-conformances and tracking them to closure.
Operational Safety & Chemical Control
Execute the site's COSHH compliance plan by ensuring all chemical assessments are current and that Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are present at the point of use.
Monitor the physical storage and handling of hazardous substances on the shop floor, ensuring waste streams are segregated correctly.
Conduct daily shop floor walkthroughs to identify hazards, housekeeping issues, or unsafe behaviours, and intervene immediately to resolve them.
Incident Reporting & Fire Safety
Act as the primary administrative lead for recording all accidents, near-misses, and incidents in the company logs.
Conduct initial investigations for minor incidents to gather facts, photos, and statements, ensuring the root cause is identified.
Execute the weekly and monthly fire safety testing schedule (fire alarm tests, emergency lighting checks, extinguisher checks) and document the results.
Ensure Fire Wardens have the correct equipment and registers available during drills.
Training & Communication
Deliver the H&S induction for all new starters and agency staff, ensuring they understand the basic safety rules before entering production.
Support department heads by providing data for Toolbox Talks and ensuring training records are signed and stored.
Update the site safety noticeboards with the latest monthly data and safety bulletins.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential Qualifications & Experience
NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (Level 3) is essential.
TechIOSH membership or active working towards it.
Proven experience as a Health & Safety Officer or Advisor within a manufacturing, engineering, or FMCG environment.
Experience working across varied operational areas such as production lines, warehousing, and laboratories.
Technical Expertise
Practical experience in maintaining H&S records and documentation for audits (e.g., ISO 14001 or 45001).
Strong working knowledge of UK H&S legislation and the ability to explain it clearly to shop floor operators.
Competence in conducting and writing COSHH assessments and maintaining chemical safety data sheets.
Ability to carry out routine accident investigations, gather witness statements, and identify immediate causes without supervision.
Proficient in completing and reviewing general Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work.
Personal Attributes & Cultural Fit
A hands-on, shop-floor-focused individual who prefers being visible in the factory rather than sitting at a desk.
Strong communication skills with the ability to engage cooperatively with machine operators and team leads.
Highly organised with a keen eye for detail, ensuring that paperwork and compliance logs are accurate and up to date.
A self-starter who requires minimal supervision and can manage their own daily workload effectively.
Proficiency in Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides) for reporting and data logging.
